Outlook Express graphics problem

This is driving me crazy (but then maybe that helps).

I upgraded my IE6 to IE8, was very unhappy with the speed of it, and posted on this forum how to fix it. Several members were very helpful and the end result is I installed FireFox. I still have the IE8 installed in order to get updates for security, etc. My Outlook Express has gone bonkers.

If I wish to display a message that contains graphics it takes forever. I click on the message, even one which was previously downloaded and which I had read. The text portion of the window goes blank, in the tan background color. This can last for up to 30 seconds before it displays the message. If it is a message which I read prior to the install of IE8 the text portion will go blank with the tan color for about 30 seconds and then the entire screen goes white except for a single banner at the top saying I am in Outlook Express. This can last for up to 90 seconds, and then the message is displayed.

If there are no graphics in the message there is no such behavior, the message displays within a couple of seconds.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you
    Mike

Since IE 8 still seems to cause assorted problems for some people and you seem to be in that group, it might be better for you to uninstall IE 8 and revert back to IE7. Or am I mistaken and did you move directly from IE6 to IE 8?
    Scroll down http://support.microsoft.com/ph/13418
and I believe you can download IE 7 if you do not have it.
You would then unistall IE 8 through Add/Remove and be taken back to either IE 6 or 7. If it is IE6, have IE 7 downloaded and on your desktop to install after IE 8 is removed and the computer rebooted.

I have isolated the problem back to IE8. I uninstalled IE8, reverting back to IE6 and the problem has completely disappeared. It appears as if IE8 was checking all the links found in each e-mail message by accessing them. I noticed that when the computer would hang with the blank text screen and the completely white screen that my Internet icon in the package tray was on solid as long as the screen was blank.

However since I have installed Firefox I will continue to use it and have IE6 as a means to get security updates from MS.

Thanks to all who pondered on this problem.
    Mike

Outlook express uses the IExplore dlls. It is basiclly a minibrowser. If there is something wrong with explorer, programs that work off of it won't work either.
