Hi,today I keep getting this window popping up every time I closed Outlook Express.
To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages. This may take up to a few minutes.
I do not want to compact my messages I just want to make this window about compacting messages Go Away. Putting a check in (do not show me this again does not work ). This never happen before today, does anyone have a fix for this.
    Marlene,

A quick question. How much hard drive space do you have on your computer?

I'm looking, someone else may beat me....

But, compacting your email will not delete any email.

Do you have all your email located within the inbox? Or is it seperated within many different folders?

I have nothing in my e-mail folders,I use hotmail and yahoo for all my emails and outlook express for some bussiness. I use to get hit by spam so I do all my mail in yahoo and hotmail. I do not save anything in Outlook Express.

My window is different from the one you have posted and I do not want to compact my messages. I just want to have that Window that pops up telling me ( To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages. This may take up to a few minutes ) "To Go Away"

I just read this from Microsoft:

[[It is largely for this reason that the background compaction feature has
been removed in Windows XP SP2. Now Outlook Express will compact
automatically only after you have opened and closed Outlook Express 100
times. It will do so not in the background, when you might be busy doing
other things on the computer, but rather when you close Outlook Express for
that 100th time. Do not cancel this compaction, nor use your computer until
it is finished. For best results however, you should still compact all
folders on a regular basis, such as weekly or bi-weekly.]]

I think I'm stuck with this pop-up unless I check the OK box to compact my messages ( If I'm reading this right ) "Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"

I have a 40 GB Hard Drive and 32 GB's of Free Space and I save nothing in my Outlook Express. My mail folders are empty most of the time.

I think your stuck clicking on the OK button. I don't think there is way to turn off that option in OE6 on XPSP2.

  12. Well i will say this much. If you do the compression im pretty sure that OE will never ask you to do it again. I have had that come up and click ok and i never even noticed a difference in anything so if your scared of messing up your emails it doesnt and you can still access them just like you always have. And once you let it do its thing it shouldnt ask you again. Cause if im remembering correctly i click ok when it propmpted me to do this I clicked ok and it only took a second and i even kept useing my computer. (Personally i think MS is full of u know what because they say you cant use the computer and i use it while doing that anyway and have no problem) But once you do it once i dont think it will ask you again. But correct me if im wrong.
