Outlook Express Problem

We have an HP computer in one of our offices that we used to send .PDF files for over a year. It worked just fine until about three weeks ago when it stopped sending attachments. It will not send any attachments, not just .PDF files. To get the secretary back in business, I went in and set up Outlook. I moved all of her email contacts and other documents over to Outlook. It sends attachments just fine, but it's harder to use and more time consuming since it doesn't have all the automatic functions found in Outlook Express.

I've tried everything I could think of to remedy the problem, but nothing worked. When you try to send an attachment, it just comes up with an error that says it failed to send the email. Any ideas why it stopped working? This computer is running Windows XP Pro w/SP3.

What automatic functions? I've used Outlook Express for years but Outlook is good; I suspect you and the secretary just don't know enough about it. Other options for email clients are Windows Live Mail and Mozilla's Thunderbird.

Re: Outlook Express, do you let it compact messages when it prompts you to do so? What is the error code # shown on the error message? What remedies did you try?

I've used Outlook Express since it came out, and I have never encountered a problem like this. It doesn't matter what you attach, how big or small, it will not send the attachment. You can take the same email without the attachment and it will go just fine. It basically tells you that it failed to send the email. It will go most of the way across the progress bar and then you will get the error.

I've checked all the settings and nothing fixes the problem and what's weird is the fact that it stopped sending in the middle of the 3rd email she sent with an attachment. The two prior to the problem went just fine. As for Outlook, she doesn't like it mainly because the interface is different than she's used to in Express. I don't know if a setting changed that I haven't noticed or if it has a glitch in the program.

When she gets back off vacation, I'll write down the specific error it's giving when it stops working.
