    Hi
I am running Windows ME on a Compaq 5WV257 using High Speed Wireless internet. My Outlook Express may be missing a file as it opens very, very slowly (takes minutes)so I went to look under OE help and it said this:
The usual cause is a missing or corrupt "Imagehlp.dll" in C:\Windows\System. Without this file, OE will be very slow to open, although usually nothing else is affected. If you uninstall a version of McAfee VirusScan and then install a later version without first restarting your computer, the McAfee install routine will delete "Imagehlp.dll" by mistake. You can either extract this file from your Win98 CDROM (using Start| Run, SFC.EXE, Extract a single file), or from your IE5/6 setup files using a command line at the setup folder like this:

    extract win98_32.cab /a Imagehlp.dll

On some systems, it is found in win98_26.cab. For IE5 users on Win95/NT, it is found in setup295.cab

BUT, I am using windows Me and don't have an installation disk. And I have no idea how to fix this or if this is the problem! Any ideas? Thanks so much.

Is there a way to totally delete Internet Explorer and Outlook Express and reinstall from scratch??? My machine doesn't delete the total thing if I go to Add/Remove Programs, it just takes it back (sometimes) to the previous version. HELP!

Thanks for answering. I kept checking Google by entering all different things and finally got an answer...I had gotten rid of MSNMessenger. As soon as I re-downloaded it and got it going again, OE worked fine. Thanks for your help.

Glad you got it fixed. Sometimes if you have excessive amounts of email in your inbox, you can get this slow response time. So monitor that too just incase it comes back ;)

OKAY - pegg the question "askerer" here. I have Outlook Express. I have "disabled" Messenger (unless it's something different - I know it's called one thing here, something different there) because I don't use it and it's a resource hog. So how can keeping it on the system help? MSN Messenger - as in being able to chat on-line right?

It must contain certain "shared" files that Outlook Express needs when loading, I guess. Yes, it was the MSN Messenger that comes with Windows so is a Microsoft product. i'm just an amateur but it worked, before it took OE about 2-3 minutes to load, with Messenger enable, about 3 seconds!

If you disabled messenger in services that will not be MSN messenger. I run MSN Messenger with Windows Messenger disabled.

Yep - sorry, I keep getting this confused

Oh yeah, that's what it is. You guys have tried to set me straight on this before. Sorry, yeah, Windows Messenger is disabled in "services" -- got it. I'm writing this down now. Thanks.
