Outlook Express will not open

Hi,
No matter where I try to open outlook express it starts to open and then goes right back to the page I tried to open it from.
Example: I try to open it from the start menu, it starts to open and then goes back to the start menu.
I can get it to open maybe 1 in 20 tries. Its driving me nuts. Can anyone help?

I tried everything in the guides and still no luck. I booted into safe mode and tried to open it and got this error message "Error # 0x800ccc0d-socket error11004" Now when not in safe mode when I try to open it it asks for my password (which I don't know) and gives me this error message:"There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'pop-server.woh.rr.com', Server: 'pop-server.woh.rr.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR invalid user name or password.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92" Any thoughts?

Your comments seem to indicate you can open OE but you can't retrieve email. Is that correct?

 

No. It may take 20 tries to get it open. Once open it works fine.

 

So, even with all these error messages, it still works fine once you get it opened? You can still retrieve your email?

How many email accounts do you have setup in OE? Are they all active accounts, or do you have any old, inactive accounts still in OE?

 

Yes, it still works fine when opened. I have 1 other active account. I just did a system restore and now I get no error messages and no prompts for my password but the dang thing still does not want to open without many tries.

 

Did you compact messages, as advised in the link DomLuc posted?

Getting Thunderbird may be the easiest solution to your problems.

 

Yes, I did compact messages. I'm going to work on it a bit more. When it has irritated me enough I'll switch to thunderbird. At least now I have an option.
