My OE got corrupted somehow. My spell check somehow got switched to French instead of English, and there's no way to switch it back to English. I've got my Win XP disc, but what I want to do is save my current information. IE: Email addresses (Hotmail and Verizon) as well as any email downloaded to my hard drive from Verizon. I know that my Hotmail is available online.
My IT manager is telling me that I want to look for a PAB file to grab whatever information is in OE. He also told me to look for an OST file to save my Verizon email. I'm not finding either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

You can back up emails by backing up the storage folder.

Tools > Options > Maintanence > Store Folder > Go to the location, copy all the files to a backup source (USB disc, external drive etc). Note, there's different ways to do this but I find this the best way.
With addresses, just open the Address Book > File > Export > Follow from there.

    Hope this helps.

Your IT manager apparently thinks you use Outlook, not Outlook Express. OST files pertain to Outlook, Outlook Express. And, the address book you use with Outlook Express has a file extension .wab, not PAB.

    I agree with mcadam's procedure.

    Outlook uses .OST files.
Outlook Express uses .DBX files. They're stored in here-
    C:\Documents and Settings\*user name*\Local Settings\Application Data\ Identities\{long string of numbers and letters}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
You need to enable viewing of hidden files/folder and system files/folders. You can also use Windows search with .dbx as the search keyword.

Thanks all. I'll give this a shot when I get home tonight.

Well that didn't go as planned. I found all of the dbx files and backed them up. It doesn't look like I can do a stand alone install of OE from the Win XP Pro disc (I tried). I went back into the Spelling Tab to see if the language had changed, but it's still French...
Can somebody give me a hand with this? I wanna either A) Do a re-install of OE6 or...B) Change the language dictionary that the spell check is referencing.

    Thanks

    SUMMARY
If you install the 2007 Microsoft Office system, you no longer have spell checking capabilities in some languages when you use Outlook Express 6.0.
    MORE INFORMATION
When you upgrade an earlier version of Office to a 2007 Office system, the old spelling checker files are removed for the following languages:
    • English
    • Spanish
    • German
These files are replaced with newer versions that are included in the 2007 Office system. The new files are incompatible with Outlook Express.

There are a variety of third-party free spell-checking programs available on the Internet. You can learn about available programs by visiting the Microsoft Communities site. Anybody want to recommend a spell check program to address the issue above?
