Outlook Express woes!

I have Windows 98SE; 198MbRAM 6Gb HDD.
When I click on Outlook Express6 it does not always bring
up the Dial Up box. If this happens it freezes the
computer and I have to restart using Ctrl-Alt-Delete. If I
have Outlook Express running while I am using IE, after a
few minutes it crashes my computer. I have ensured that my
anti virus program is updated and run it daily. I have
also run Adaware, Junk File remover and Scandisk. I have
checked for MS updates. But still have the same problem.
Any suggestions what to try please?

I believ the problem is the ram amout.
198MB of RAM is not going to let you open many programs.
My suggestion is to get more ram.

 

Whilst it might be the RAM, it worked okay for over a year and only started doing this a couple of weeks ago. Thanks for the suggestion though and I will add more RAM.

Also try doing a 'repair' of IE. Go to the control panel/add-remove/Internet Explorer. Click remove. A repair option will popup instead of removing it. Have your '98 disk handy.

198mb of ram on 98 should have you flying along nicely.

 

Also, if you have had this computer for a long time, you might want to check for dust in the ram slots.

 

Thanks Beermonkey (and all others that made suggestions to try.) I keep the outside of the computer clean, but on opening it up, Yuk! Yeah, time to get out the cleaning kit. Cleaned it out and so far it works okay. In future "spring" cleaning takes place four times a year!
