Outlook in Vista

    When I try to load Outlook 2003 under vista it demands Outlook express. This is available as part of IE6 or before which cannot be used in vista. How can I use my old outlook without buying outlook 2007.

    I installed Office 2K3 on my vista box with no issues, Vista doesn't even have OE installed by default.(at least on the version I have) I would try uninstalling OE then try re-installing Outlook

    Hi

    As for the reasons Serious Sam posted, I too did not have issues with Outlook in Vista, could you post a screenshot of the message you get for Outlook Express, as I feel it may just be the message once Outlook is run for the first time to import email settings and mail from a specific email application and OE6 is one of those options.

    Please also give us step by steps as to what you are doing when installin Outlook 2003, as this may give us a clue as troubleshooting blind is not always easy.

    Version Outlook 2003 works perfectly in Vista, so dont buy 2007 yet.

    It says - cannot start Microsoft outlook Outlook requires Microsoft Outlook exoress 4.01 or greater You can install OE by running IE5setup.exe from the IE5 folder located on your CD or through the Windows update website.
    But I cannot find it in either!

    I don't know exactly how you're trying to install Office 2003, but your comments simply don't make sense. Outlook Express has never been part of Vista; Windows Mail replaced it in Vista. So, do NOT try to install Outlook Express in Vista.

    Do you understand the above point? That does not mean you need to install Outlook Express; it means you can *import* Outlook Express messages into Outlook. But, the technique for doing this does not involve installing Outlook Express.

    I know OE isn't part of vista Outlook says you need it - hence the error message. I want outlook because its got lots of messages I have not backed up. Windows live mail is actually virtually as good

    Is this an upgraded install of Vista from say XP or clean install?

    What Service Pack is your Office 2003 at? if not at SP3 then get it here and install, then try Outlook again, but before installing clear out your temp folders as old installs can cause errors, ccleaner is good for this.


    Try registering this file OLE32.dll by clicking Start and in the start search box paste this Regsvr32 Ole32.dll

    also you could try this and click Start and in the Start Search box type regedit then find this location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
    components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}     then double click IsInstalled and change its value from 0 to 1

    You need to be precise here when talking about programs. In this post, you've said outlook but I believe you mean Outlook Express, per your previous posts.

    I'm sure your installation of Outlook in Vista is prompting you for OE message files, not OE, the program. OE messages are stored in .dbx files.

    Re: Windows Mail; it's similar to but better than Outlook Express.

    Windows Mail & Windows Live Mail are 2 different beasts, Windows Mail comes default with Vista, you have to download Windows Live Mail. I know this due to a recent OS upgrade to Vista & I tried to configure Windows Mail for my Hotmail account & it said I had to use Windows Live Mail due to the default vista client was not compatible

    I see I mis-read this earlier; in my previous post, I was thinking you said Windows Mail, not Windows Live Mail. Why did you bring up Windows Live Mail in that post? Prior to that, you were only talking about Outlook and Outlook Express.
