Outlook problem

I recently used the Malware help section to clear out a virus I had. When I was done with the cleaning I decided to use other programs to prevent me from having the same problem.

I downloaded and installed AVG, Comodo Firewall and A-squared.

Now I can not send emails from Outlook 2002. I was able to send without any problems before without a problem.

When I try to send an email I get an error saying:
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

    Subject: ?????
    Sent: 5/27/2007 6:06 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'email addy' on 5/27/2007 6:06 PM
550 relaying mail to ???? is not allowed

I contacted AVG and Comodo about the problem. Both say it's not their program but the other. AVG did suggest I use the remove program for McAfee, which I did but it did not help.

Has anyone else had this problem or know how I can fix it so I can send email again?

    Thank You

Need to check any antivirus mailing applications to ensure the option scan incoming or outgoing mail is disabled. Also check with you isp to ensure all your outlook express settings are correct.

Part of me trying to figure out what is going on I did turn off the email scanning, both incoming and outgoing. I can get emails, have been; but I can't send anything.

I contacted my ISP and redid my account in Outlook. I am using regular Outlook, not the Express version. If I log onto my email account online I can send out an email. According to my ISP that shows it is not them or my account but something on my computer.

Which I can believe since it started right after I loaded the programs I mentioned.

I'm almost tempted to just unload them all and try to send something. If it works then to just load one at a time until it stops then I'll know which one it is. The only problem I see with that method is something I read on AVG forums.

There was another person that had the same problem. He finally bought a new HD and just loaded everything from scratch. Only he didn't load AVG again; and his Outlook started working.

AVG said they think it is the firewall. Comodo says it sounds like either Outlook or AVG. Which is why I thought to ask here. I figured I'd get an unbiased answer. Of course nobody think it's their program so they point the finger at the other guy.

I loaded the programs based on suggestions from this site. I was also hoping someone here would have heard of this issue and be able to point me in a direction. I know I'm not the first because I have seen others asking about the same thing.

It's been five days and no response. I guess nobody has any suggestions on a possible solution to fix my Outlook.

Have you tried using the Test Account Settings button in the E-mail accounts setup panel? If that test says it was successful, that seems to indicate the problem is not with your computer.

Also, in your OP, you said you receive a non-delivery notice. I believe you would not receive such notices if, indeed, Outlook was not sending the messages. Does Outlook show the messages are sent when you send? Do they appear in your Sent Items folder?

I have tried the self test message and it does work.

Outlook shows the emails in the sent que, but I get an instant message saying the email was not sent because it is not allowed. If I log onto my email account online, not on Outlook, I can send emails to anyone I want.

My ISP said since I can send emails from there it means their system is working properly.

I have tried sending emails to numerous accounts, including Yahoo, Gmail and Hotmail, and they have all been sent back.

If you have ANY ideas or suggestions I am willing to try them. I tried everything I can think of and have not been able to fix the problem.

I have contacted both AVG and Comodo and both point fingers at the other program and only suggest rebooting my entire system; which I did try a few times.

Oh yeah, it's not a non-delivery notice. It says, "Not allowed."

It's the SMTP Server set up wrong.

I was able to talk to someone today at my ISP that actually knew something about computers; go figure.

He told me the error, 550, is from me having the computer at a different location then home. I was told when my ISP sees a different IP that I am connected thru they block all outgoing emails. He told me that is why I can log onto the email server and send anything out but not from Outlook.

At least now I know so I can stop pulling out hair that I don't have.

That's what we were telling you.

Please review post 2 from Colemanguy "Also check with you isp to ensure all your outlook express settings are correct" SMTP is a setting.

Also review post 8 from me "It's the SMTP Server set up wrong"

    What a SMTP Server is:
To prevent spammers and malicious users from sending mail via their server, most ISPs have placed restrictions on who is allowed to access their SMTP server. For most people this is not an issue, since most people use only one ISP and one e-mail account hosted by that ISP. If you sometimes use a second ISP though, or if you use an e-mail address other than the one provided by your ISP, the SMTP server may not recognize you as an authorized user and so will refuse to send your messages. Instead the server will issue an error message. The exact text varies but will usually include the error code "550 - Relaying not allowed."

It would have helped if you had mentioned that your computer was at a different location, we don't have a subscription to the physic friends network, we only go by the info you provide.

Also, I was raised to say please and thank you when asking others to take their time to help me. You might try this, people will be more willing to help you.

I wasn't trying to be rude. I did say "Thank You" in my original post. And I do apologize if you took it as being rude for me not repeating it in every post.

The reason I didn't say anything about me being in a different location is I didn't know it mattered. I was here for three weeks before I had any problems. I was sending and receiving emails on a daily basis before I got the malware; that took about a week and a half to get fixed.

It wasn't until after I got the malware removed did I have a problem with Outlook. Which is why I was thinking it was an issue with the program, not my location. And I did say I redid the email account setup with my ISP. It wasn't until I got in touch with the last person that saw the problem and told me about it.

It was my thinking that the last change is what caused it, not something that changed before the problem started.

    Thanks to all that helped.

I always have said, I know just enough to be dangerous to myself; but I do know when to ask for help.
