outlook woes

I have a major problem with Microsoft Outlook 2003. Firstly I cannot send or recieve e-mail, although if I go into the outlook e-mail account properties and test the outlook settings everything works fine except I don't ever recieve the test e-mail to my inbox. Also, and much more importantly I cannot make any changes to outlook at all. If I try to change or adjust or even forward a contact it comes up with the following error message.

Errors have been detected in the file C:\Documents and settings\WARREN DAVIES\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook\outlook.pst. Quit Outlook and all mail enabled applications, and then use the inbox repair tool (Scanpst.exe) to diagnose and repair errors in the file. For more information about inbox repair tool, see help.

I do have a backup of the outlook pst file although it is a week or so old so I would rather sort out this problem rather than re-installing ouloook.

I have run the repair tool and it apparently found 47 errors of which it tells you nothing about. It apparently repaired them, I restarted outlook and its exactly the same.
This problem is on my work pc and I will be tryng the detect and repair tool in the morning unless anyone has any better soloutions. After that my only resort will be to reinstall.

Please help if you can.

 

Are you using POP3 or Exchange workgroup mail?

How about trying this? Reconfigure Outlook to point to a new pst file named whatever. Then do your test send receive with the new PST file. If that works, see if you can open the pst file in Outlook from the FILE menu. If that works, you can copy all of your SENT, INBOX, DELETED, CALENDAR, CONTACTS to your new pst file.
