1st post......in need of some help

I will be the first to admit that I am not the best with computers, so that is why I came here. I will try to make as much sense as possible with my problem..

I just moved back into my parents home with my laptop. Back at my old place we had a wireless router and everything would download fine. Now at my parents house, I can no longer download anything the full way. Most youtube video's only make it about a 1/3 of the way through before they stop. And most downloads from websites do not make it past 50%. Peoples songs on their myspace pages dont even play all the way through. Could this be due to a new router?

    Any suggestions are welcome

    Thanks in advance...

    Maybe...what browser are you using?

Have you cleared the temporary internet files?

Have you tried going straight to the modem?

Run some general maintenance on your PC (read this: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=106650 ). Maybe visit your router's manufacturer's web site and look thru the FAQ's and support/help pages. Maybe try resetting the router by using the little button (a paper clip may be needed); hold the button down for 10-15 seconds and then reboot the PC. Wait a few minutes before going online to allow the PC and router to 'talk' to each other to get the settings straight. NOTE: when using the router's reset button, any WPA/WEP passwords and custom settings (like port forwarding, UPnP, etc) will be removed, and the router will be returned to default 'out-of-the-box' factory settings..... You can always call your ISP and present them with your problem and see if they can help. Sometimes they can, but sometimes all they say is "it's your PC". Good luck, keep us posted, and Welcome to Major Geeks! :major

disable your wireless connection, temporarily of course.
    empty trash.
    remove temp files.
    reset modem.
    shutdown/start over.
see if your modem requires discreet channels for each computer in the network.
    check your network settings.
make certain that you don't have any programs running in the background when you're trying to download.
check with modem manufacturer, AND your laptop manufacturer,
either one of these might have a patch if this is a problem that others have encountered.
    good luck, i'm done.
    dismissed.:cool
