Anyone done this? whats the best way of doing it?

i think the safest way is to use coolbits 2 or rivatuner. u will need to increase the speed of the 3D core and ram to get some faster results. with that card u should easily be able to run it at ultra speeds, 400/1100, or even higher. but watch out that it doesnt run too hot!
which card have u got exactly?

Thanks - I have the AOpen Aeolus 6800GT 256MB card

What core speeds do you think would be achieveable safly?

it would be within safe limits to go up to 400/1100 but u can probably go higher. i went up to 440/1180 with mine. however, u shouldnt really need to overclock it much since it should be fast enough for most games at the time.
when u do overclock it do it in small steps, never just jank it up! keep an eye on the temps and test it before leaving a setting on for too long.
what are the rest of ur system specs? a good way for u to test ur card is to use Futuremarks 3D Mark 2005? run it and post the scores so we can see how its performing

I will run the tests and let you know.....

    I have the following...

P4 3Ghz 2MB Cache Intel 6 Series processor with Asus Star Ice CPU Cooler
    Asus P5GDC V Deluxe Mobo
    2068MB Kingston DDR2 SDRAM (PC4200)
    AOPEN 256MB Geforce 6800GT Graphics (PCI X)
    2 x Seagate 120GB Sata Drives (Raid 0)

Once I have made it look better I will post some pics.....

u should get some good 3DMark scores with that setup. I maxed out at just over 6000 in 3DMark 05 with my:

    p4 3,2 Prescott 1MB Cache
    MSI PT880 Neo Series
    2Gb (4x512) pc3200 RAM
    Leadtek 6800GT 256 (AGP x8)
    2 x 160Gb Samsung

similar system, so results should be about the same, if not better
    good luck!

Few things you are going to need. First of all, an aftermarket cooler. Id reccomend the Arctic Cooling NV5 vga cooler. (20$+ via ebay) assuming you already know you need a better cooler (Stock coolers usually suck. They spend all the funding on the chip itself and then short change on the cooler.) You will need a few tools,

First you need to unlock the coolbits option in your nvidia driver.

    http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=815#download

install this reg file to your regestry by simply double clicking it, and vollia!

Now, the real reason for my post. I couldnt get more than 400mhz out of the GPU. After some research I found out it was because my GPU core was running at 1.3v. Insted of downloading a new bios, simply download a program called "nibitor." This program will allow us to copy, edit, and save your bios.

    http://www.mvktech.net/index.php?option=com_remository&func=fileinfo&filecatid=1833

Once you open nibitor, go to TOOLS>READ BIOS>SELECT DEVICE and select your video card. (there should be only 1 unless you have more than 1 video card.) Now, go to TOOLS>READ BIOS>READ INTO NIBITOR (you will notice it was grey before. you also have the option to save your current bios, WHICH I HIGHLY RECCOMEND JUST IN CASE. Also you can safely view your video card's current bios settings. Oh, and have a PCI video card handy too. Me and my m8s didnt have a problem at all with this procedure, but you never know.

Now that you have backed up your current bios, it is time to edit it. Click on the VOLTAGES tab in nibitor. Next to "3D" there should be a pulldown menu. your 6800GT should be running at 1.3V and this is why you probably cant clock safely pass 400mhz. the GPU simply needs just a little more power. ;] Pull it down, and change it to 1.4V and save it to a ROM file. FILE>SAVE BIOS

This last step is really the most painful part. Seeing as you can not really safely flash a bios in windows. You need to download a small program called Nvflash.exe

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t766.html

Personally, I used a bootable NT4CD that had an option to boot into NTFS DOS. This made things really simple seeing as most of us dont use floppy disks anymore, and who wants to waste a CD-R making a tiny bootable cd?

    www.bootdisk.com

once you are in DOS, its simple. Run:

    nvflash -BIOSFILENAME.ROM

wait a few moments, let it run its course, and reboot into windows.

Now, lets run nibitor one more time just to make sure that the flash was successful. Run nibitor, TOOLS>READ BIOS>SELECT DEVICE as you did previously, TOOLS>READ BIOS>READ INTO NIBITOR
Make sure its at 1.4. and if it is, you are now ready to over clock from 400mhz-420. I noticed Olley posted earlier that he was capeable of 440mhz. Perhaps he boosted his core to 1.5v? I have heard of others running it that high, but personally going from 350/375MHZ to 400/420MHZ safely, and cool is enough for me. If you want more mhz out of your gpu, but a new card.

Here are some screen shots of my driver settings:

Runs cooler than it did with the stock cooler NOT overclocked. NV5 rocks.

    There we go, Ultra speeds

First off i use becasue Nvidias Drivers at the start of windows.
Programs like river tuner dont work at all. You see no inprovememts in games.

You need a overclocking program that overclocks you grahics card at a BIOS level.
So coolbits will be your best chance. I overclocks your graphics cards bios.

This knowlege is Straight from NVIDIA.
