Overclocking help with my GeCube 9600 XT extreme

I am trying to get a stable overclock for my GeCube radeon 9600 XT extreme using ATITool and i am having problems.

The stock speeds of my card are
Core: 500Mhz
Memory: 350Mhz (700Mhz)

everytime i raise the core to 510Mhz or above my computer crashes or freezes.
The overclock i would like to try and reach is core 540mhz and mem 400mhz (800mhz).
I have the latest catalyst control center and drivers installed on my computer

Can anyone suggest a way that i could get to the desired speeds?

I also have stock cooling on my card: ramsinks and a fan

From AtiTool select "settings".
From the drop down box select "temperature monitoring"
under this check "measure card tempurature" and "send GPU temperature to sensor" , than click "back" and now the temp will be displayed in your tool bar. This is a good way to get used to what your normal temps are and from there you can decide how far you can push it. My normal temp on my Sapphire 9600XT is 33 celsius under load is 39-40. this is after installing OCZ copper memory heatsinks and a Thermaltake Crystal Orb vga chipset cooler with some Arctic Silver 5.
If your card is getting too hot or already running hot than overclocking it will only make it hotter!!!
I wouldnt expect too much outta this card as the XT's are already clocked pretty high.
Just remember your card is yours to do with what you want but if you ruin it dont blame others.
