    Hi Everyone,
I want to overclock my video card. It is a PNY FX5200 Ultra 128MB. I am going to get a new card in a couple of months when the prices drop when the new gereration cards come out.

Any way how do i go about doing this? It has stock cooling (heatsink and fan that covers the memory and gpu) and i have excelent air flow. Will i have to upgrade the cooling? I can stick a diode on the bottom to keep an eye on the temps.

Also how would i overclock the card. Do i have to adjust the bios or is there a program that will let me do it.

Thank you everyone and i look foreward to you advice.

I ran 3dmark and scored a 7329 with default settings. I then installed the Coolbits Reg file, and began tweeking the card. I got the core clock to 383MHz and the memory up to 703MHz. It ran a stable benchmark with 3Dmark 2000. I scored a 10078. I was really surprised. I also got the lag out of UT2004 with all the settings on normal, so i am happy. In a few months i am going to purchase a new card.

I am looking at a FX5900 or Radeon 9800 Pro. Any suggestions on which one to get?

    Thanks,

Wow, thats a pretty good OC there :D

AS for recommendations: wait a few months.
The next gen cards are coming out from both companies and will be on shelves within 1-2 months (the GeForceFX6800 and ATI X800).
They will drive down the cost of current stock.

Id say, right now, to get a 5900XT or 9800 Pro, the nvidia is cheaper but slower.
    I had an Asus 5900, went from 400/850 core/mem to 507/1030.
My ATI 9800 pro goes from 380/680 to ~430/740

Nvidia is dropping the FX tag on their new cards..

If you want a card now I would recommend the FX 5950. It runs SLIGHTY slower in benchmarks than the 9800 XT ( wont notice a difference ) and costs 30-40$ less. Yea , not much of a price change but if you can get the same thing for less why not?

But the 6800 will be available within the month for just a bit more then the 5950, and the ATI cards are expected around the same time (well, first hte X800 Pro, with 12 pipelines, but the X800XT will follow soon after)

And currently the 5950 and 9800XT run very similiar benchmark scores, but the ATI provides better AA and image quality (when pixel shaders are used, mainly), but worse AF. Still, the diff for 'in game' isnt really noticeable (having owned both an FX5900 and 9800pro, I can give first hand testimony I noticed no difference)

    Hi,
Thanks for your input. My budget is around 200 - 250 so the new cards even the 5950 is out of my range.

    Thanks,

just wait a while, or you could opt for a nVidia GeForceFX 5900XT, which can be flashed to be a 5900 card in most cases, voids your warranty though and flashing the vidcard's bios doesn't alway give you the results you want.
    I'd wait :)

you can download plenty of benchmarks here at majorgeeks
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads4.html

    Best ones for graphics are
3DMARK 2001 (better if you got old hardware)
3dmark 03 (Directx9 based) but will run on older hardware
Aquamark 3 (also Directx 9 based)

Most benchmarks take around 10 mins or so depending on the speed of your machine ;)

Well it is, but it is a downgraded version, as i have just learned from other posts. The memory is 128bit, where as the other 9800pro cards are at a 256bit.

Sorry to jump in on the end but...

PNY5200 is, word escape me, bad

mine got returned on the advice of the f#french PNY rep and im
    English....!!!

You can get progs to unlock and make it better, but they are limited

I went for a 9800pro and am not disappointed, although the 5950 with a p4 seems to b the way to go..

I got the ultra version about a year ago. It was way better then my old card a ati rage 8mb. Once the prices go down on the 256bit 9800 pros i am going to trade up to one of those!

I got my Ti4200 @ 300/580 & I pulled a 10682. Something is seriously holding me back I know, but for the life of me, I cain't figure it out.

In the Details it says it's running a refresh rate of 60hz, when I know it's set to 85hz. Could this be the problem & if so, how might one fix that?
