Overclocking question...

Hey my processor is a AMD Sempron 2600+ 1.8ghz and i just recently overclocked it to 2.0ghz and when i tried to squeeze a lil more juice out of it, it kept crashing... so i know i had reached my climax. So my question is, is 2.0ghz the highest i can get it? And if it is, will it drastically effect my processors lifespan. I mean the temperature is 57degrees Celcius and i heard anything under 60 is what it should be..

*Note i've heard and think i've seen somewhere saying that the max i can get it is to 3.0ghz.. so thats why i'm asking if 2.0ghz is the most i can get it to.

 

No its not the highest you can get it,if you read the overclocking guide,it will explain how important cooling and voltage are,ATM you shouldnt even overclock really with a 58c cpu its too hot,also I would say your current overclock is already unstable,just because windows loads doesnt mean its a stable overclock,download prime 95 and run it for a couple of hours,if there are no errors its fine,I say this because the next step up your computer crashes,I would guess you have to drop your fsb down about 3mhz from where you are now before it is stable.

 

I have this processor. YOU WILL BURN IT UP IF YOU RUN IT ANY FASTER THAN 2.7 Ghz, UNLESS YOU ARE WATERCOOLING. I did it once, and wont do it again. MegaHertz is currently seeing a speed of 2607.52, and this is the most stable thing ive seen. I am running a VIA Technologies KM400 MoBo, and a Gig of ddr 666 memory. I havent had this thing crash or hang up once, except for when i tried to run norton and HL2 at once, but that was kind of expected. oh, i have a FSB speed of 400 Mhz.

 

It is not easy to get so far over 1g, OC you should get good CPU heatsink like WB system, Good ram at good timmings, and Vdim, Vcore, And so on ...
