Hi, first of I just want to say that I am totally noob to the overclocking of computers. I just found out a week ago that you actually could overclock.
Anyways, I got a MSI NX8600 GT (low profile) Graphic card and I just saw that I actually had D.O.T. (Dynamic overclocking Technology)

So I was just wondering how much I can overclock this card without harming it or putting my computer to a risk. Cause I am playing Age of Conan atm, and it goes kinda slow. Even with medium graphics or even worse graphics I drop down to FPS below 10 in combat with a group of 6 or more.
I know that I can always buy a better cooling system and stuff to make the overclocking greater without harm for my computer. But I just want to know if I even can overclock without making any damage to my computer as it is.

    I hope you answer, //JonasLT

which one do you have the 540coreclock w/ 1400memory clock or the 620/1600?
either way I suggest go w/ 10increments on the core and see if you have any stability problems & check your temps.. increase slowly & you will know when you hit the sweet spot...

This is the card I use. 540/1400

Just wanna double check here.. If I wanna overclock I just right click my desktop and go to the VGA Clock tab in my Videoscreen settings and enable DOT? And you tell me to increase the Core Clock (MHz) to 10? And then slightly go higher and higher if I need to.. But how do I know that I aint making damage to my computer? Or does the computer just turn off itself or something if I overclock too much? And what do you exactly mean with : "check your temps"? Please tell me more what to do here.. Cause I aint that good in this overclocking business :)

When you o/c your vid. card you will experience stutter, crashing, artifacts, overheating etc.. when you start playing ur games.. thats usually the case when you start running into stability problems thats when you know to backup. thats y increase slowly and test.. to adjust this use a utility program that came w/ your card or there some here on this forum. As far as temp. goes pay attention to that (theres some good programs here on this forum) because you may not experience any stutter or crashing but then you don't want your card overheating because heat will slow it down & u don't want ur card hitting <100C.. thats y vast majority of overclockers spend so much money on good cooling just so that they can squeeze every little bit of juice out of their system.. (cpu, ram, grafix card, & so on..) hope this helps a little bit..

You might want to look into RivaTuner http://www.majorgeeks.com/download737.html For overclocking. Make sure you set your fans to 100%!

    I use GPU-Z for card temps http://www.majorgeeks.com/download5796.html

And you should increase your overclock in increments and watch the temps and test for stability. I would run something like this at stock settings http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4935 And get a baseline score so you can see how your overclocking is doing.

And then check your temps and such, and increase and overclock as far as you feel comfortable, check for stability, temps... You get the idea.

It is very advisable to use aftermarket cooling when overclocking. Most of the stock stuff will not work to well.

I use RivaTuner, not familiar with the DOT.
