Overheating issues

Hey,

It's currently summer in Australia and my computer seems to be crapping itself after about 10 minutes of gaming, I'm assuming the gpu is being overheated although the side of my case is off for better ventilation.

I don't have any temperature monitoring utilities...any suggestions are appreciated.

i think you'll really need something to give you the temps of the items in your box. it could be your cpu also. taking the cover off of the computer doesn't always help keep it cooler. you are able to get air flowing in certain directions and keep it cooler with the cover on. you make stop airflow and reduce the cooling effectiveness by taking off the cover.

if it's shutting down after 10 minutes of gaming, something is wrong. but there is several freeware software like core temp that can tell you what the temp on the cpu's are. i'm sure that there's something to give you the information on the temp of the gpu, but i don't know any specifics. you may want to check on your power supply also. without more specifics, i'm afraid i'm not much help.

 

Well I'm running an amd athlon 64 3000+, gigabyte k8nf-9 mobo, 1 gig generic ram, 350 watt (i think) psup, 3 sata hdd's, the graphics card im running is an ati x700 pro 256mb by powercolor.

I've had this set up nearly 3 years, and this is the first time i've run into such a sever problem.

I turned my pc off just after it crashed whilst gaming and touched the heatsink of the graphics card, it was extremely hot.

I will be getting a new system sometime this year, I just didn't want to be forking out the cash until later on :-(
