    read THIS first.
and make sure you understand the dangers of overclocking, overclocking still isn't something to be taken lightly, it voids your warranty and can damage your system irrepairably.

True, but it makes ur computer faster :D

Only when done correctly. Do it wrong and it can make your computer slower (believe it or not). That's another reason why its vital to be as clued up as you can be if you want to try overclocking.

Good point and vary true...just take it slow move the fsb or x up a bit and test and i mean burn it in HARD dont just go in and say " well it boots so it must be stable " ) I know a lot of peeps that are like that ( i used to be one:p ) the key is to take your time and be 100% stable before you go for a little more... and use prime 95 no matter what peeps say if it finds errors you ARE unstable you might be able to run all of your programes fine but that error every know and again will slowly start to mess things up...

timings of ram it affect to computer run fast or slow. DFI motherboard make me lose much time of timmings and I feel like this  :D

Another very good point. If you don't have quality memory installed, overclocking can be a royal pain in the butt. Overclocking is more of an overall thing, rather than just upping the FSB. There are many other factors to be considered into the equation. Do your homework first or you will end up with a fried machine.

That's the one thing I don't understand, and have not understood for so long. Overclocking does void your warranty, ofcourse, but how do CPU manufacturers (i.e. AMD) know?

    For example,
Let's say I raised the "FSB" of an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ from 200 to 210 and then the thing blew up. (highly unlikely, if likely at all) How would AMD know the cause of the CPU's failure was from the tiny raise in "FSB" (the quotes denote the fact that in AMD Athlon 64s, it's not really a Front Side Bus)?

Now, let's say that I raised the "FSB" to 210 and then lowered it back to the stock 200. Would anyone know that I had previously raised it?

OCing is as playing game, you are interesting in OCing, you pay much money for good computer hardwares and other spares for OCing, you have knowledge and experiences. you are verry happy as far as you get high core in OCing such as your knowledge. and you lose money for carelessness and misunderstanding.

Anyway... dont be afraid to try at your own risk.. because you can learn soo much! Even how to blowing things up... hehehe :D

To answer your questions in a few words... They Don't, and No. Unless you fried it by forcing 2.5v through it or some other stupid stunt no one would know. The fact is many people return fried (by overclocking) CPU's and get a new one. The Company eats the loss, or rather passes it on to you in higher prices.

Personally, I've overclocked every CPU I've owned for the last 12 years or so and have not yet had one die on me. The Athlon XP I'm using now has been running in excess of 2400Mhz for the last 2 years without a hiccup. In fact on a cool winters night, I had it up and running benches and games at 2505Mhz at a core voltage of 1.95v. It's a 2100+ T-Bred "B" core, stock speed 1733Mhz, so thats about a 44.5% Overclock. Voltage is an 18.2% overvoltage. This is all with air cooling. A rather large Thermalright AX-7 with a 50CFM 80mm fan. Temps were in the 50-52c range under load with an ambient of about 20c.

and it's what I'm using to type this a year later. Still working fine. Knowing how to Overclock is doing the research and learning what components to choose and then applying some common sense and careful testing. It's pretty easy after you get the gist of it. Maybe too easy... For some People, "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing" ;)

Thanks for the great reply! I too have overclocked with no ill effect on my system (it is a P4 Celeron 2.4Ghz that I thought was lacking a bit of punch, or in the Celeron's case, pinch http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/smilies/redface.gif)

The only reason I asked how manufacturers knew was plain and simple! I was curious! http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Again, thanks for the words of wisdom, and thanks for informing me! http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
