First I want to apologize if I am in the wrong place.
I have both laptop and desktop. Do loads of genealogy on both. When traveling get new info on laptop, and want to transfer to files on desktop, and when we get ready to travel want to update my laptop with information found on my desktop.

My question is, when the popup says "do you want to replace this file" will it just transfer information from the laptop "family" to desktop file "family", or will it totally replace it, causing me to loose all the info that was there?

When I change names of the files and merge, get duplicate entries in the notes file, which I am trying to avoid.

I am using Family Tree 6.0 on both computers.

If you answer yes to "do you want to replace this file" it is going to overwrite the file and the only info you will have is waht was in the file you copied to the HD last.

Some programs have a method of merging or syncronizing data. You'd have to read the help file for the program your using.
