Not getting too much with that Bios/mobo ID Toke, do you have any more info on what Mobo it is, either by looking at the mobo for a name and model number or using Everest to gain more info ( Everest also helps in giving you the link to manuafacturers so you can find updates for drivers/Bios etc )

    Everest

also have you entered the Bios to check to see if onboard USB is enabled?

Hi Toke sorry I didnt get too much ofa chance yesterday to do a bit of searching but today...

I have managed to find in FICs FTP the folder of PAC-2003 motherboard Bioses ( need to now just look at which one is the latest version ) , but at this stage before attempting a Bios update it maybe well worth instaling Intels chipset drivers as they do add alot of support for USB etc

but I would need to know what the Intel Chipset is on that mobo, its going to be an old one and the newer Intel chipset drivers have no support for the older 430/440 chipsets. Archived 430/440 Intel Chipset
    ftp://download.intel.com/design/software/drivers/platform/inf/infinst_3302.zip

Enter Device manager and look down the device list for any yellow ! marks and what are they?

FICs FTP ftp://ftp.fic.com.tw/motherboard/bios/socket7/pac-2003/ ( EDIT .... just checked the dates of the Bios updates and it looks as if you had the latest version of the bios for that mobo already )

    so best bet

hahahaha didnt finish my post so it seems..... must ahve gotten side tracked and hit enter Ooops!

Best bet would be to install the intel chipset drivers as they do add USB support amongst other things.

Also on the disk that could have come with the modem are their any USB drivers? also whats the modem ( guessing its a thompson ADSL ) ?

Hi again Halo... ummmm . Only one error report/exclamation mark in Desk manager and that is to do with printer port so no prob. I have the name of modem an 'US Robotics 56k Voice Int' have been to driverguide and cannot see it specifically like the Int at the end is not listed.. there all ending in ASDN. Would it be a good idea if I put in another new modem that would have the USB drivers on the instalation disk as they only cost pennies, as this would seem an easy option ????

    http://members.driverguide.com/inde...otics&qa5=10&qa7=1400&dp=3&sm=b&jmd=and&fzz=b

dont know if you can get in to look unless of course you are a member...as this is driver page. if you have to use mine its pass.. popeye and activation code is 2672149:9b309630
    :)

Toke thats a Dialup modem and as much as I would love you to get broadband through that, you'd have better chances of a Lib Dem landslide victory tomorrow in the elections.

When you look down the Device Manager list do you see USB listed?

The only way you'll get broadband is to have an ADSL USB modem which most ISPs will send you free once you sign up to BB.

Hi Halo , that was my original quest as there is no reference to USB anywhere and thats what led me to believe that the drivers are missing, so i need the driver so as family can then use a port for BB connection :) and Ihave a Modem here that has USB drivers on the disk, whether they are compatible with the Mobo I dont really know , once USB's are working then we can think about the BB connection. hope thats a little clearer now.. :)

yeah just got spooked when you mentioned a 56k modem and its drivers disk having USB drivers on it ;)

could be some help to you, section around this area "WinMe System Files Needed for Some Devices" http://www.usbman.com/WinME USB Guide.htm with the driver files for ME.

cannot remember if you have been into Bios or not to check to see if USB has been enabled on the mobo?
