P2P Software Has Stopped Working

I run two P2P file sharing software programs: Limewire Pro and Ares and they have suddenly stopped working.

The issue is that the applications launch but they do not connect to their respective sites in order to file share. The problem manifests itself whenever I boot into my Windows XP Media Edition. If I boot into safe mode with networking the programs work and I can share files. I also can share files on my other machines therefore the problem is not with my ISP shutting off file sharing.

I am running Norton Anti-Virus 2006 Version 12.6.0.1, Sunbelt Kerio Firewall (Free Version), Adaware Professional, Spybot S&D, and Spyware Blaster.

I have also used a few registry cleaning tools but I have restored the system to before I installed those programs and it would seem that I still have the problem. I have also uninstalled the programs and reinstalled them and that doesn't make a difference either.

One last item, when I shut down Limewire it does not totally shut down and I must use the system manager to shut down the program and that has never happened before this problem began to manifest itself.

I am not sure what else I should supply as far as information on my system. I will say that I am up to date on all my Microsoft critical updates and that when I have run a virus scan, nothing has come up.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am sorry to hear that.

I used limewire and then it stopped working.. I then uninstalled it.

file sharing websites are always being shut down etc.. maybe that has happened in this case hence the reason you cannot connect with them?

Try downloading eMule (www.emule.com). As of a few days ago, it was still working on my PC. Unlike eDonkey, eMule has no spyware/adware embedded.

If you feel lucky, you can also try tweaking your firewall settings or (while file sharing) turning off your firewall. In the past, the firewall in XP SP2 has caused problems while file sharing on my PC. Since I also have a firewall in my router, I don't feel turning off the one in XP is an issue.

I heard that if you try to install emule or donkey, that it gives an unistall instaed because the music industry sued their *** for 30000, per song:eek:....Possibly bad gossip, but those p2p are on the way out like Napster 7 years ago...sure it may work still, but no updates or any help. Hmm, where to find free porn now:confused:hehe
There is always Torrents...but you never heard it from me

If you used the link in my previous post, I goofed - my bad.

CORRECTION: The link is www.emule.net. I just pulled it up and the software is still available (be sure to pick the main download; not the options embedded in "Ads By Google").

Am running it now; seems to be working fine. Download it and enjoy it while it lasts.
