P2P Software!

Hey all. I'm posting this thread with regards to P2P/dowloading software. Can anyone suggest any good programs for downloading media (music, videos, etc). I've tried several of the spyware-laden ones such as Kazaa, BearShare, LimeWire, etc, but they all stop functioning correctly after a while and clot my system with spyware. I heard Ares Lite may be a good one? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Never use Kazaa as you have discovered.

Kazaa Lite, Kazaa Resurrection, or Kazaa ++ are the same program stripped of advertising and spyware etc.

Shareaza is very good as it uses 3 different networks, but it's not as simple to set up as Kazaa Lite as you have to use port forwarding in your firewall.

Still worth the effort though.

Ares is good in concept, but it doesn't have the volume of users as the others.

Bit Torrent is also very good.

Be aware though that regardless of the program, you are downloading data from someone else's computer so there will always be an element of risk.

 

Winmx is also very popular and spyware free.

 

True, but they have excellent help pages that'll walk you through most firewalls & routers step-by-step. Once connected, there's almost nothing you can't find.

 

As I said, ShareAza is very good and I use it, but you really need more than one program.

Also, the vast majority of files on ShareAza are on the eDonkey network which uses a "reward" system.

That's fine if you are on Broadband, but useless on dial up or intermittent connections.

WinMx is good, especially for music, but can have long ques.

A combination of ShareAza, WinMX and Kazaa Lite is a good solution.

 

The best P2P program is the one NOT installed on your system!

 

i have used many p2p apps. i have used ares, (not lite, just regular) winmx, kazaa lite, and shareza or what ever taht is. i definitly don't recommend shareza, maybe i had a rotten install, but it was slow as hell. i use ares now, and have no complaints. kazaa lite is also crap. i havent tried bit torrent or e donkey but have heard some good things about them. also have heard that a new p2p called excite or somen along those lines is coming out, and it's sposed to be big. EVERYONE SHOULD DOWNLOAD ARES!!!!!

 

Kazza lite k++ is ok, and so is ares, but any p2p sharing is very risky without the right anti virus. Avast antivirus scans some of the more common p2p's like k-lite etc. so if your going to use p2p, i would say make sure your anti virus is good.

Are you trying to say you can never have enough P2P programs?

I have used WinMX in the past, as well as eDonkey and Kazaa Lite... but really I've not used a P2P program in a good while, but i remember eDonkey was quite good.

Always used Morpheus. Yes i know it comes with WebSearch toolbar, but spysweeper and spybot will zap that pretty sharpish.

Never had any probs with it, but if your not confident in killing the wee beastie which comes with it then its best not to bother. It can be a pain on occassion cos it tends to hog your resouces unless your system has a good chunk of memory but hey.... ups n downs with any application. lol

 

I have been using WINMX for years now with no problems at all and I always seem to get what I'm looking for. Only con is the ques can be long sometimes!

 

warez p2p is awesome, this is also spyware free.
