    Hey all.

I'm alittle concerned as to the temp. of my CPU. I run a P4 2.40, I have an Intel recognised fan (although I couldn't tell you which!) with a fairly large heatsink and two system fans. Right now Abit EQ is telling me my CPU is running at 45.5c; that's with the side off and only IE Explorer running!

I have cleaned out all the dust I could and I'm not overclocking my PC.

    Surely this can't be OK?!

    P4 2.40ghz
    512mb DDR-RAM (I think!)
    NVIDIA GForce FX 5600

45C on idle is fine and well within limits. You could get a better CPU heatsink and fan, use Arctic Silver 5 and get 120mm case fans and probably lower your temps by about 10C, but if your not overclocking and not gaming round the clock, then I would leave it as it is.

45c not bad, Except that's more of an idel temp & your case is open.
The Question that comes to mind is What's your temp when side cover is on?
Or what's temp when ya game?
You probably should compair temps with another utility maybe Everest or ?
What temps are shown in Bios?

Most anything is good when max temp is under 50c, IMO

what are you using to monitor and how do you check the temp while in game (or do you just check immediately after?)

what are normal temps for gaming?

i just bought a p4 prescott 3ghz, but i got a better fan, etc, so im just tyring to get a basic idea of what to expect.

Side off case doesnt help much apart from give you a false sense of temp security, great you have cleaned out the PC from dust, most forget that.... as you have two system fans, where are they located and in what direction are they pushing air?

How tidy are your cables? good cable management can lower temps by a few deg's as they create dead air pockets that warm the case up, so try to tidy cables up so air can move over the motherboard easily.

What are your room ambient temps?

Where is your PC located, is it in a corner, inside a PC desk?

Try using another temp monitoring app to get another temp reading... Everest ( available from the MG front pages ) is a good one.
