What is the ideal temp for my p4 to run at? My case temp is around 33 celcius
and my cpu is at 76 celcius. i would like to know if this is too hot or not? :)

by the way it is 2.40 GHz

your case is 91 its not a good temp

and your CPU is 168 that a very bad temp to run at thats not going to make your cpu last very long [your slowly killing your CPU ]

the max safe temps i would run my box at would be 80 case and about 116 cpu at idle i mean

i would try more case fans how many do you have ?

and how about your CPU HS and fan that my need upgraded

and did you overclock your cpu?

i have 4 fans on my case and 3 inside not counting the processor fan.

do you think i dont have enought thermal past or should i even get a new heatsink

and no i am not overclocking.

    new heatsink maybe

and make sure the fans are sucking out the back and blowing in the front
and if you have a side fan the it should be blowing in

i would get a new heat sink with that cpu temp you seem to need one

i just took of my processor fan and heatsink and cleaned them up. The thermal past was kinda gray in some parst but it should be white is this because of dust getting under the processor? The processor also had dust on the side that i wiped off.

my current temp is 86F for the case and 165F for the processor.

Is this the prescott? I just got a 3.0GHz Prescott that runs pretty hot, with two folding sessions (100% cpu) going i run 55-58C which is too hot imo, So today i went out and picked up a Techie Toyz CopperChill "P4" from compusa, and put it in with some artic silver 5, booted up and was now getting 63C which was much worse!

So i'm gonna return that POS and first try lapping the copper core on the Intel HSF because i think it has some potential left in it, other wise my move will be to the thermaltake 3in1 extreme, or aero cool extreme which both seem like they will help the system out since they are more copper composed.

So for anyone with the CopperChill "P4" i would suggest returning it or spend some time lapping it since it has a rough contact surface.
