    Hi world,

I have inherited an old P4 class imedia 826 (celeron cpu tho) running at 2.4GHz with an old 40gb HDD.

I also had left from a job for a work colleague who decided not to pick up his dead system a very similar case / brand with a p4 think 2.8 which appears to have failed. Much to my shock and surprise when i took the HDD out of the failed p4 2.8 (no sticker on top to id this model) and threw it in the celeron imedia 826 the thing booted without any problems...no extra drivers or anything...too easy i thought...well almost no problems.

I cant get the original DVD out of the P4 unit which failed to be recognised on the imedia 826 even tho its using the HDD from the same p4 unit - ported the dvd and hdd to the imedia...replacing the imedias original cdrom. I looked at the mobo and the only obvious difference apart from the fact that one was working, was only i think a 2.0 revision on the imedia celerons gigabyte mobo and on the p4 was like 1.0 if that. The same model mobo tho.

I have tried the original cd/r from the imedia 826 unit, have tried the dvd which seems to be the only singular cd/dvd device to get detected in the bios, also tried an old but well loved lg cd/rw. The bios only shows the dvd from the p4 unit the same unit where the HDD came from... but now these are installed in the imedia 826 (celeron). Its almost like the unit doesnt have any other driver or the bios is on the Hdd and got upset when redetecting the cd rom or partially fried, i dont want to go through the hassel of a rebuild, I do too many of these for a living, especially if the only but critical issue is a dvd or cd playback.

Any thoughts, no irq conflict or other issue noted in the device mangler, cant update the driver either as no dvd or cd to do this from an XP pro disc which I have unit has xp home which I am unfamiliar with having always stuck to the pros of O/S's. Had a look at mstartup nothing notable there but may have missed something dont normally play in this area. Bios just seems hung up on a dvdwriter..thoughts on this one please world.:wave

    Cont...

Also tried messing with the jumper settings and even replacing the jumper incase of issue with it...these jumper issues are rare but still needed to eliminte it from the scenario.

So still have p4 hdd and p4 dvd put into the imedia (celeron) although this is revison 2.0 of same model gigabyte mobo. Still cant get bios to recognise any other device other than the same DVD number on the alwasy showing as a secondary / master not sure if the \ detected model a DVD is correct or if its bios is having issues detecting correct device or being detected incorrectly?? dont know but either way still its only a dvd/rom device bios shows regardless of where in the ide chanel its installed. The DVD doesnt show up in bios when the device is removed, when connected as mentioned earlier always shows as secondary ide master.... Slaved mastered singled cable selected up and down the ide chain different ide channels.

Is it likely that a bios flash may help?? or just turn custard into toast or hopefully something that can be easyily sorted?? thanks in advance.:wave:wave
