    Hi

I've recently contacted my ISP about them throttling my ports (6881-6889)

This makes Bittorrent work like crap and also breaks many other usefully programs.

I talked to their lead security man and he told me if I emailed them at abuse@cogeco.net he would personally talk to his manager and sort out the problem.

I am mainly doing this for all the good people at http://www.dslreports.com who have the problem but no will to fix it.

My problem is location based (Windsor and Hamilton)

Anyways, I'm here because I know very very little about packet sniffing. I have heard about it and briefly experimented with it, but I need something more concrete to mail my ISP with.

I need to verify that certain ports are being limited severely and are unusable.

Now, I've read my AUP and I am in no means wrong to complain about the port throttling, if I have proof, I will have my problem rectified.

Any help would be nice, thanks!

    Thanks.

How do I check if the ports are being blocked with this program?

    The wiki isn't so useful.

This doesn't directly answer your question, but why don't you just configure another port, via your Bit Torrent client, instead of the default 6881 used?

I don't understand how you would check port blockage with a packet sniffer either. I think what you need is a port scanner, which is way different.

nmap is very effective, but make sure you are only scanning yourself. You can get in trouble with your ISP for scanning others.
