Page break not working

My page break isn’t working. Doesn't work when I use Control and Enter or when I click Insert and Break.

Also, when I click insert and then auto text and then attention line, closing, header/footer, etc. There’s nothing there to choose from. If I click insert and then auto text and auto text again I can choose from that drop-down menu. I can live without the auto text but the page break is killing me. Is there a way to temporarily do a page break until I get this fixed? And how do I fix it? My macros and everything else seems to be okay so far.

I don’t know if this matters but I have two normal dots. One in Documents and Settings\ Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates and one under my name… Documents and Settings\My Name\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates. I’m not sure how that happened. I was backing up both of them this weekend. I moved the one out of the Administrator because I thought Word read from the one under my name, which apparently maybe everything does but auto text and page break? Macros and everything were fine and I didn’t think it would be a problem until I tried to do a page break. I put it (the normal.dot) back but that didn’t help. I put back another empty normal.dot (copied it when the computer was new) because the macros and everything are under my name but that didn’t help either.

I figured it was a long shot but I rebooted the computer but that didn’t help.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! My biggest problem right now is not being able to do a page break.

 

An update from the OP

I went from normal view to print view and then I could see the # of lines and pages on the bottom toolbar. Then page break began to work. I went back to normal view and it's still working. I have no idea why. I think I need a vacation.

Still nothing when I click insert and auto text, attention line, etc. but I can live without that since I can access the other way I mentioned.

 

Another Update

Everytime I open a new document I don't see the page # and line # at the bottom and can't do page breaks but when I go to print layout each time I can then do it and then return back to normal view I can do it again in normal view. It just won't start out in normal view.

I've gotten an error the last time two times I booted that hpoidr07.dll is missing. Could that have anything to do with it?
