Page cannot & major slowdown

    Hi
    I have used the steps for removal on this site several times to fix problems on my computer, as well as others. My family thinks I'm a computer genious, especially when I solved the porn sites stuck on my grandmas homepage. Thanks to everyone.
    The steps havnt worked for me this time!

    I have cable connection and lately I'm having issues?

    1. IE surfing getting "the page cannot be displayed" Occasionally. Where it says that for everything for 10-15 min. While outlook still will recieve email..
    2. Slowdown in reboots (triple the time)
    3. Way slow page loads= sometimes, like old dial up days. One little piece at a time
    4. Once a week, when i launch IE it will start opening multiple pages, like hundreds and I can do nothing but watch the show

    Ran all the steps, and nothing was found, as I use most of the spyware software always.

    Was thinking of reinstalling, but would like to beat the culprit. Help please.

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

    We need HijackThis logs to be produced from normal boot mode unless otherwise requested. Yours appears to be from safe mode because I do not see some processes running (like your AVG software).

    Also, you must make sure no browsers (
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe) are running when using HijackThis.

    Okay! Let's try the below steps:

    If you are using WinXP or WinMe, make sure you have system restore disabled (per the tutorial).
    For all OS types, make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

    Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://hsremove.com/done.htm
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {029CA12C-89C1-46a7-A3C7-82F2F98635CB} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: MPEG Support Dll - {57A70350-87D9-4EA2-B3AC-C1C1B5296035} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpegcore.dll
    O16 - DPF: {34805D32-AD89-469E-8503-A5666AEE4333} (RdxIE Class) - http://207.188.7.150/172c11263405d1ec3a01/netzip/RdxIE.cab

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
    Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpegcore.dll

    Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST). Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.

    Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.

    Thank You very much!

    I was not in safe mode. I just used task manager to shut as much down as possible. I guess I over did it.
    I'm sure there was no IE window open. I saw nothing on screen, I didn't want to come across as someone who can't follow directions. I guess I did though, because its in the log.

    The problems were sporadic so I'll have to keep an eye on things!

    But my reboot time is back to normal... :)
    My surfing speed reports are back to normal also... :)
