Page File Problem

I just upgraded to 1 GB of RAM (had 512), It is Corsair XMS 3200 DDR 400. So here is my problem: I had previously had the page file set to 512 MB (I was having problems burning DVD's with anything lower) well after adding the new RAM I was going to lower to like 256 MB, so I go in to change it and it is set to 1535 MB. I typed in max and min 265 MB and restart the computer and it still says 1535 MB although the max and mi still read 256 MB. Why can't I change my pagefile size?

This is a shot in the dark, I just reset my pagefile today.....I also thought I had set it to 256, but it read some other huge number. I discovered a "Set" button right next to it. So, make sure you hit the "Set" button, and then hit "OK" instead of just hitting "OK". Then restart.

If that doesn't fix it, then I'm clueless. Hope it works.

Yep I did the set (3 times now and no change). When I run VoptXP it is showing a huge pagefile.

 

maybe there's junk inside the pagefile that windows won't want to part with, so let's get rid of the junk.

try editing the registry (start/run/ "regedit") and find the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

then find the entry "ClearPageFileAtShutdown". if it doesn't exist, make a new dword with that name and give it a value of 1. that should force windows to clean out the pagefile at shutdown (if it's not obvious).
