Page_fault_in_nonpaged_area

OK, my computer has thrown the blue screen of death at me a couple of times. The above was the latest error. I didn't note down the error the first time as it was an isolated incident.

It says something along the lines of "your computer has been shut down to prevent damage.

The rest of the error message was...

ibmfilter.sys seems to have caused this problem

*** stop: 0x00000050 (0xFF5701B7, 0x00000000, 0xEDFF9B1C, 0x00000000)

*** ibmfilter.sys - Address EDFF9B1C base at EDFF5000, date stamp 4050ebff




Does anyone have an idea what's going on here?

It's only happened a couple of times, but if it keeps occurring it could get very annoying! :S

The first is an update from IBM the second is an update from Microsoft. These are related to IBM's Rapid Restore Rescue and Recovery Software.

Let us know if either of these help.

 

Thanks for the hints Mickey. I've already got the MS update, am running the Lenovo update utility now which seems to be updating the software hinted at in the first article.

Also ran a scandsk /f /r on the disk too, which the MS website recommends when searching for that error.

As it's only a very infrequent error I'll not really know if it has worked, only if it hasn't.

I've encountered issues with that IBM's Rapid Restore Rescue and Recovery Software before, just not your particular issue. So I'm not sure if it will help. But I believe it's worth a try.
