What are people thoughts onpaid for security suites now ?
W10 systems running windows firewall seems to get good feedback in certain areas.
Ive had a paid for suite for the last 4 yrs (bullguard) and now considering dropping it as its become hungry and clunky since Win 1709 updates.
I also have ASC pro, ccleaner amd MWbytes installed so was wondering if I am covered ok without a paid system ?
    TIA

I have never paid for security software. I go with free programs and am very careful about my surfing and clicking. There are plenty of freeware programs to choose from. I am also letting windows firewall handle that part of my security.

I have paid for 360 total security as it was cheapest as my last paid subscription has expired.

I'm a long time user of F-Secure suite, 3 PCs and a 2 year subscription BUT I have to call the UK subs company every time it is due and haggle re the price. It always works and the cost is usually about £40 for the deal. The advertised price to new subscribers is far higher than that.
Have just set my neighbour up, one laptop only, with all free Avast, Malwarebytes and ADWCleaner.
So, from scratch it is either free or very expensive....not a fair system!

I don't use suites. I prefer to get programs from different sites.
I use the Windows built in firewall and a free anti-virus.

I do pay for a malware detector, malwarebytes. Fortunately I bought at one time or another 5 lifetime licenses so that has more than paid for the use I've gotten from the program.

The current Mbam happens to have protection for 4 things: web site, exploit, malware and ransomware.

360 total security premium is quite cheap compared to other security suites I have come across, so I went and paid for a 2 year subscription.

Seems reasonable to me to assume that those who choose to pay for security software do so because they think it must be better than free software. I started seriously with Windows 20 years ago with Win 98 and have had every version since. Have only used free software in that time, and in Win 7, 8 and 10 only the software (firewall and AV) built into Windows or freely available from Microsoft (MS Security Essentials in Win 7). Just to be reassured the software was doing its job I have also kept available free on-demand scanners (MBAM and SuperAntiSpyware) and the only 'infections' I have encountered in that time have been PUPs, usually through not being sufficiently careful when installing other software. So personally I don't believe free security software is in any way inferior.

I have no idea whether paid-for software would have performed better or worse, and I don't care either because I also have the ultimate AV - monthly system images that when restored will take the computer - in its entirety - back to its state when the image was created. By definition that process will remove every trace of any infection acquired since the image was created and no security software could ever compete with that.
