This may be long, I am sorry. Microsoft and HP Printer/Sanner both kicked my question when I went there for help, I came here years ago and Got help and I am back again, so let me explaine.

Oh, my name is Jim, I am running Windows 7 Home Premium, recently I had a hard drive crash and before the crash everything worked fine. After the crash I replaced the hard drive with the same that was in the computer. I am a big user of Paint Shop Pro 9 and my Photosmart HP 6510 Printer/scanner. The Scanner shows in the Acquire window of PPP. but when I try to run a Scan I get the message "device not found". I have all the latest drivers for the printer/scanner. The funny thing is it works fine in a couple other programs. I really do need to get it to work again within my Paint Shop Pro program, is there anything I can do to fix this, I am at a total loss and been at it for a couple weeks and I need to get some sleep ;-)

So Please and thank you are in order here. If you need more info please let me know.

    Jim

Not sure what you mean by replaced the hard drive with the same? So, you got the same make, model and size hard drive. That won't matter, what does matter is that I assume you reinstalled Windows on that drive?

If so, then did you actually install Paint Shop Pro 9 and ALL your printer software, not just the drivers?

Can you go into Paint Shop Pro 9 and chose your printer? Not sure where that is under 9.

Correct on the hard drive, it was the same everything, it just so happened that way and it is new. I had to reinstall every thing on it, Win 7, programs, printer/scanner. Yes the printer is only about 4 months old and I used the install disc that came with it, the printer works fine it is just now Paint Shop Pro is showing it in the select twain acquire drop down and also the twain acquire to use the scanner, but when you click on it, it gives this message to be sure the USB is connected correctly (which it is), when I close that box it then says No Divice Found. However it is working right in other programs. HP says to download their drivers and I did but it the same drivers I have on disc and the same thing happens, they then through out my question as did Microsoft, now that's standing behind your products. I just don't know what to do to get it working. I can't get support for Paint Shop Pro as it was the last version from Jasc when Corel bought them out and they won't support it as they want you to buy their version which is the same as what I have, they didn't change that much on it. So I'm up the creek so to speak. Hope this helps you understand.
    Thanks, Jim

2 ideas now that we added a possible USB port problem to the mix:

1: Try another USB port. Silly as it sounds, I see it all the time. Unplug the USB, plug it into another one.

2: Motherboard drivers to be sure USB is working correctly. I can only assume it is an Intel board so here they are: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Intel_Chi...pset_Software_Installation_Utility_d1667.html
If it is not an Intel board, it will let you know and abort the install.

Nope, that didn't work Major, tried rear ports and front and installed the files, same thing, I can't figure it out

I know what your talking about Major, I just can't understand that I never had that problem before. When I bought the printer/scanner a few months back everything insalled with no problem, of course Paint Shop had been installed way before that. Oh well, maybe someone can give me an idea.
    Thanks for the try man,
    Jim

What do you see when you go to Import | TWAIN | Select Source ? More than one? Can you try another one?

I do have Paint Shop Pro 9 on this (Windows XP) machine, with a Canon scanner.

I tried to repeat what you are doing, but at the end I do not quite understand. Let me show you what I am doing, and what happens.
    1. File | Import | Twain | Select source (see 1st attachment)
    2. File | Import | TWAIN | Acquire (this opens up the scanning software, see 2nd attachment)
    3. from here I can prescan or scan etc.
Where in this process do you get that error?

P.S. to my previous message: Paint Shop Pro 9 was also installed on this machine a long time before the scanner was installed.

In the device manager, are there any devices showing any errors (yellow exclamation point)?

Do you know what is issuing your error message; is it PSP or the scanner software?

everything is fine in the device manager. Not sure on the rest, the scanner is working in other programs just not in PPP when it did before I replace the hard drive

Does the scanner software work by itself?

    Yes, and in other programs

I think I'm also running out of ideas...

I just had a look at the PSP9 manual (for Dummies), and it mentions that after selecting the source, pressing the Scan button on the scanner may also activate/acquire the scanner (if the scanner has a Scan button).

One thing to consider if you cannot get that thing to work: the upgrade to the latest Paint Shop Pro version is USD 29.99, and you will get support for that version.

Sorry to post so late in this thread but I've just seen it. PSP 9 is a WinXP program. To get it to work properly with Win7 you'll need to run it in compatibility mode (from what I'm told). You may need to also turn off UAC as well as run as administrator. PSP X3 practically required you to install with all security software off, running the installer as admin under compatibility mode, and with UAC off as well. At least on the three computers I installed it on.
