I don't understand what a parse error is. Can someone explain it to me.

    Thanks.

    In what context?

I think generically it is a term used for the process of 'going through' something to obtain the syntaxical meaning.

For instance when you're compiling a C program the parsing part of the compilation process is when (I think) the C program is analysed and the raw syntax of what you're typing is analysed and those really annoying errors are discovered... such as that missing ';' on the end of a line, or even that extra ';' someone obviously put on the end of an if statement when you weren't looking... in fact I think a syntax error like this is whenever someone inserts a silly mistake into your carefully typed out source code just to keep you on your feet... ;)

I believe that is what the parsing is in this context, and the above is a generic definition... Hopefully I've got the ball rolling for someone who knows a little more anyway
