So i have read that some like to have HDD partitioned. I want to try this. If you make a separate partition for storage, how does the computer know what to put there.? Do the data have to be transferred manually ? Thanks in advance for help !!!

If you make a separate data storage partition, you have to decide what to put there.

If you want to move e.g. 'My Documents' to the data drive, then you must move it manually. But you must also let Windows know (via the registry) where to find 'My Documents' now.

Also, some programs (like Adobe Reader) to not like it if 'My Documents' or 'My Pictures' are not on the main drive.

Keep in mind that a second hard drive with one or more partitions is also an option.

This is an excellent tool that I have used several times and it's Free.
    MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition

There is a free Bootable CD with this software which you can download here: http://www.partitionwizard.com/partition-wizard-bootable-cd.html
I strongly recommend that you make a copy of the boot CD and test it to make sure you Can Boot from that disk Before you make
    any partition changes.

Also, make some security backups and if possible a drive image backup.

I have heard that using softwares for creating partitions can seem like it takes forever (several hours). A lot of times people get impatient, and seems like if you interrupt the process, something goes wrong. How many hours should it take?? I know that one of the programs suggests a slightly better processor than what i have is needed??? I think mine is 2394 mhz. ?

That depends on the capacity and access speed of your HD. But most partitioning tools show you a progress bar, and perhaps even a remaining time.

Yes, you should definitely not interrupt the partitioning process.

In my experience, creating a partition is pretty quick and formatting is relatively quick but can take a little time.

The time consuming part is moving a large amount of data, if that is necessary.

The system requirements for Partition Wizard only shows operating systems,
and I see no mention of processor requirements.

    Great!!

Partition the hard drive will make the partitions work like a separate hard drive, that is good for data safety and Classification storage of your data and files.
Before you repartition your hard drive you could Defragment your partitions and Run chkdsk utility to check and fix some potential errors, since disk errors, slice files may slow down the partition software, except Partition Wizard, AOMEI Partition Assistant is also an excellent partition software, you can google the two software.
