Partition Magic 8

One of my client's machines needed a new hard drive, so I used Partition Magic 8 to copy the information over. The process worked fine until I got this massage:

PartitionMagic (xmnt2002.exe)
Paritionmagic is unable to read the batch file. Verify that the System32 directory is not compressed or corrupt.
Press Any Key to Continue

One suggestion I read was to assign a different drive letter, but how can I do that if I can't boot the system?!!

I have tried rewriting the boot sector but that didn't work.

Any suggestions?

I am using Windows XP

Are you trying to mirror the whole HDD to another, with windows and all included?

Or

Are you just trying to move data?



Either way, partition magic is not the first program i would recommend for either task

Wrong tool. You wanted to clone a hard drive. You should use programs like Acronis True Image (paid), Ghost (paid), Easeus Disk Copy (free), Macrium Reflect (paid).
Also some hard drive manufacturers have free tools that will clone the old hard drive to the new. Western Digital uses Acronis; it is free but only works on a new Western Digital hard drive.

For that type of job, I use xxClone.

 

I am mirroring the whole disk with everything included! It's so frustating! Tried it twice now!

 

Its all well and good saying that, but I've used it now!
