    Hey guys,
Sorry I can't search through all the threads and find the information cause I'm using a friends computer and have little time.

    Problem:
I have a completely blank hard drive. I need to know how to make a boot cd so I can partition the hard drive and then format it. I am going to be putting windows xp on it and I'm going to use NTFS as the file system. Need to know what utilities to download, such as which specific fdisk, and what all needs to be on the cd so I can boot from it and partition the hard drive. Thanks in advance for the help. I'll be back tomorrow to see your replies.

Windows XP will look at the hard drive when you boot from the XP cd and tell you it needs to be formatted as well as ask for FAT or NTFS. It is really easy.

In the old days, Windows 95, 98, ME, you needed a boot disk usually to do this, not anymore, you dont need a floppy for much really.

I worte a tutorial on this here http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=25831 but try booting from the XP cd and see how it goes.

Ok I knew it was something simple. Always is. I'll run home and work with it.

Ok ya. I feel stupid. It was the one cd I didn't try. Anyway got it partitioned and everything up and running. Thanks for the quick reply. Now just got to do a lot of updates and make some back up cds. Thanks again.
