    Greetings, powderstorm.

You should be able to adjust (shrink) the size of the D: partition through Disk Management. You won't be able to zero the partition, but you can at least make it a more manageable size (and give your C: partition a lot more space). You might first back up any important data - the process is usually painless and safe, but you never know.

Click Start, right-click Computer, click Manage > Storage > Disk Management. Highlight the D: partition, then right-click and select 'Shrink Volume'. Follow the prompts and you should be good to go.

If for some reason this procedure is not available, let us know. There are alternatives, both from within Windows and from 3rd-party programs, but the Disk Management solution should be the easiest.

Just a quick note. You will be able to resize the d: using Windows disk management but you wont be able to resize the c: as it is the boot partion and Windows cant change the size of an active partition.

You will need to use a third party app to do this. I have used EaseUS to do this task before now but there are lots other options.

You have to set the size and it will reboot to adjust the partition size before Windows mounts the C: partition.

Hey Guys, I hope you don't mind if I jump in here, but I had about the same question. I just ran AVG Disk Explorer and found that my C drive is 92% in use and my D drive is only 8% and I was wondering how I can get more use from the D drive. I tried using Disk Management you suggested in the above post and it won't let me do, any more suggestion. I have Windows Vista, in case you need to know.

    Hi Lamilucy,

There are several things you can do.

    1. Have a read of this post. and carry out the maintenance suggested then re-check your free space.

    2. You can uninstall software and reinstall it on your d:

    3. Have a look at the size of your user profile located in c:\users\(username). If this is very big the you can relocate parts of your profile to your D:. Post back for instructions

    4. Re-size your partitions using anyone of the three software solutions listed previously. I am aware of all three solutions, and all should work equally well, but I only have personal experience with EaseUS.

Please post back for more help.

    Hi,

Lamilucy, you really should start a new thread for your problem as not to confuse the original poster to this thread. Just click New Thread on the left to make a new thread from the Hardware forum. http://forums.majorgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=22

***It is possible that your D: drive is a recovery partition and doesn't have space to spare but that can be discussed in a new thread. Please.
