Partition Problems with Back-up HD

Ok long story short i used windows to format a hard drive that i thought was viral. i didnt set up any partitions on the drive and it will not allow me to access my files now. when i plug it in with a usb converter it says it recognises a mass storage device but will not appear in "My Computer" folder nor will it give me a "New Device Found" wizzard. However when reviewed in the "Device Profile" or whatever that window is called, it clearly depicts a recognizable hard drive with the right capacity, and the right amount of space occupied. My question is, what steps do I need to take to transfer those files to my new system, without having to format my data in order to create a new partition. Is there a lock on its access that I can switch off or something? I am able to edit regkeys so feel free to get technical, just make sure its clear and step-by-step.

If you formatted that drive there wont be anything on that drive anyway.

 

i formatted it because i thought it was viral, then after the format, i backed up a different hd onto it once it was blank

 

try this, right click my computer, properties, hardware, device manager, disk drives, and find the hard drive in question, uninstall driver and restart, windows will reinstall driver.

 

that did not work either, like i said, its not a normal run of the mill problem. i have files on an unpartitioned drive that i want to move onto my hard drive. i guess i could ask, how do i assign it a drive name, and if i get that done would it then show up on "my computer?" and if it doesnt show up would i be able to copy files from command prompt?
