    Gah

I have an ntfs partition taking up 184 gigs, and 50 gigs for ubuntu (ext2, dual-booting without problems).

I did not know about this until firing up PM, and I'm tempted to let PM "fix" this, but if everything's running fine right now, should I let it "fix" the problem (as in, it might make my partitions go bye-bye >_>)?

CUrse the lack of edit button >_>

I forgot to add that by saying no, PM fails to start with error 117, partition letter cannot be read

I'm going to take a stab and say it's #1 and you shouldn't worry about it if there is no other symptoms.

Hrm, so what should I do then in order to use partition magic, since it exits with error 117

First, before you do anything else, make sure everything is backed up. This might be a warning sign of your partitions going bad.

Also, make sure you have the jumpers set correctly.

I would also try and reinstall PQ, but only after backing everything up! I've had it happen when I tried to uninstall a similar program that was causing me trouble and it wound up killing my hard drive.

What is your hard drive set up like? Can you read from your windows partition when you boot ubuntu?

What should I do? I want to resize my windows and linux partition, giving 30gb back to windows and resizing linux to 20gb, but I need everything to be peachy-keen before doing so.

For one, I wouldn't format your linux partitions with PM. Use linux's fdisk program. Only thing I could suggest is removing and reinstalling linux. And resizing with PM after you remove linux and before you reinstall it. Maybe boot knoppix and delete your linux partitions using fdisk.

You could manually edit and correct the partition tables but you'd be on your own with that. There's a program called ptedit, you could do a google search for it, or maybe it's for download here. But again use that at your own risk. You have everything backed up, right?

In my infinite wisdom, I let pm fix the errors, but it still won't start and it exits with error 117. Yes I can still boot windows (haven't tried linux yet, but meh).

Nevermind. I just did it the old fashioned way and nuked the lin partition and gave everything back to windows.

    Meh
