My friends laptop (yep, same one as in my other software thread) has a partitioned 40 GB HD DR. Drive C is about 7 GB and Drive D is about 33 GB. Drive C is about all used up. I wanted to download XP SP3 but not enuff space on C hd dr. Can I take the partition out and how? Would it be better to move some personal files from C to D? I don't know why hd is partitioned. Must have come from the factory like that or, during waranty, I think she took it in for some probs and maybe they did it then. What is the benefit and what do you suggest I do? Thanks....Jack

If all you're doing is adding SP3 to an existing XP install, I'd move the larger files (music, video and photos) to the larger partition. To be on the safe side, I'd back up all your personal files to a USB flash drive first.

Once you've copied them to the larger partition and the USB backup, delete the originals from the C drive. This should free enough space to install XP3.
