Partitioning Software Question

Is there a program that i can use to partition a drive w/o losing any data on it?

 

With partitioning software you can resize and make new partitions but the new partition can only be made by the amount of free space you have therefore it should not erase the data. However if you are talking about taking from a XP partition you will possibly run into and issue where you would have to reinstall or repair Windows XP. That was at least a situation I ran into.

So if you decide to do such of a thing BEWARE.

The program I like to use is Norton Partition Magic.

 

actually i have 2 drives, an 8gig and an 80. I freed up 27gb on the 80 and want to put a 10gb partition on it to reinstall XPpro on it and putting kubuntu on the 8gb hd to play around with.

 

The best way to do this then is to format both hardrives since you said you were going to reinstall XP Pro. Then in Ubuntu and when installing do the customizing partitions and that way you can setup the partition sizes how you want them and it will format them for you too.

 

yes, there are alot of progs that allow you to perform this both free one and progs for you have to pay money. i'd prefer not freeware, coz think that they are more stable. i use disk director for partitioning my hd.
