    Hi.
How can I set a password on my Cable and wirelss router so for example, if anyone picked up my signal, they have to enter a password. I am convinced the leeches in my street are draining my wireless but I don't know how to password protect it. I can access the configuration of my router as I have the disc. Please explain it easily as I have been overwhelmed by the technical jargon on the net.
    Many thanks

When you set up your wireless network did you have a disk that came with the router, if so just insert it into your pc and follow the instructions.
you don't say what router it is (make/model) but most work the same, you have to connect the router to your pc with an ethernet cable and put the disk in, it will then lead you through the installation process and at some point will ask you "do you want to secure with a password" you will then be given options of the type of password you want to use.

    Hi.
Cable and Wireless. 11g ADSL Router.
Yes, I have the disc, but it does not ask me the type of password that I need

Those instructions apply to specific model routers. OP never said what make and model router he's using.

bohana34, do have not have some documentation for your router? If not, visit the manufacturer's website to find out how to access your router control panel and setup wireless security.

Obviously, I'm referring to doing this via the router control panel, not by using a setup disk. For my D-Link router, I access the control panel via my web browser on my desktop PC connected by cable to the router, using http://192.168.0.1/ as the URL. 192.168.0.1 is a common one, I believe, but this may vary by make and model of router.

DON'T use wireless when setting it up. Wired it for accessing and be sure to turn off remote management!
I access my router by typing in 192.168.1.1 if I did not turn off remote management, anyone who "sees" I have a linksys router and got my signal on wireless could type the address into their browser and access the setup and change things knowing the default login. (Yes, the first thing I did was change the default login so the SSID is mywifi instead of admin and I also change the password regularly).

Change the default SSID, change the default password and turn off remote management.
