I bought an AST desktop that has a password preventing me from accessing the setup. Any suggestions that would help me. I have upgraded the floppy drive as well as the CD-Rom drive and can't load the new operationg system.

Bios? Try resetting the bios using the jumpers.

You bought this PC used? Ask the Seller for the password ;)
Have you tryed to simply hit enter when prompted for password?

Try setting boot order in BIOS, CD first, then boot from Windows CD & run Windows setup:)

    Humm? password set in BIOS?

If you cant find or dont know which jumpers, You can also reset BIOS/CMOS by removing the CMOS battery for couple minutes

He said he is trying to access setup, I assumed that meant he was after the BIOS settings.

I can't find the jumper and AST is no longer availiable for help. As far as the battery, I am at a loss for that too. Pretty elusive little things in life..... Thanx for the help, I'm still at it. ROB

Need the manual to be 100% sure, it should say something like cmos rst next to the pins. Usually the jumper is setting one one pin, remove it and put it on both pins. Then put it back.

Optionally, the battery is an easy spot, its in the same area and looks like (probably is) a round, flat watch battery. Remove it and go find something to do for a few, put it back and see what happens on boot.

As amazing as it sounds, the battery isn't like a watch battery. But, I have tried taking it out, overnight actually to no avail. Again thankx for your help. I am still looking for the darn jumper. Merry Christmas
