OK guys... I know this is a bit vague but...

A friend was given an ex Government computer which has apparently had the HD wiped..

When we try to get into CMOS to change the boot sequence (so we can install XP) , it comes up with a little window asking for a password...

I was told by someone that there is a way to fix this depending on what motherboard it is..... Anyone know???

I looked on the Motherboard and all I could see was AGP written on it..

It's an old computer.... 133Mhz Pentium II Intel

Any ideas how we are going to be able to use this damn thingie??..

    Cheers

Take the battery out for a while. Not sure how long. Longer the better I suppose.

Bascailly you should be able to remove the battery on the motherboard (after unplugging all power supply connections to the mobo) and setting the jumper on the motherboard (thus shorting it) to reset it.

Worst case scenerio, usually just unplugging all power connections and taking out the battery for a good 10 minutes will reset the CMOS, thus reseting the password.

Correct me if I am wrong.

    Good luck!

Yeah, usually 5 minutes is the minimal wait. However, make sure the power supply has no connection to the mother boad via P8 and P9 connectors (you did say Pentium 133 mhz right?) The power supply can hold a charge for several days even being uplugged, thus making it almost impossible to reset the cmos if connected to the mobo.

    I hope this helps dude!

Looking at it from here. At the bottom of the battery is a small catch. Lever it back gently & the battery should come out.
