I've set up my desktop and laptop in a Workgroup.

Desktop (XP Pro) can access, read and write to Laptop (XP Home) with no problems.

Laptop can see Desktop, but when double-clicking on it in My Network Places, a Connect to "Computername" box appears. It asks for a User name and a Password.

Both machines are set up with no password. I'm not even sure what to put for User name, since I don't have to actually log into either machine.

What exactly is it asking me for?

    Thanks,

    Steve

just because you do not put a name in at boot you are logged on the PC(s)..
Check Start>Log Off , try that user name (of the host pc you are trying to connect to)... or enable easy filesharing.

Another option, if you didn't set an administrator password when you installed XP use administrator as the username and leave the password blank. Just another option.

OK, so in otherwords, my administrative profile name is Steve. So I'll just type Steve for User name and leave password blank?

I tried that - Administrator with no password.

Probably a stupid question, but do you have a file or drive shared on the XP Pro machine? If so are the security settings on the file or drive set to allow access, such as read, write, and/or execute? I would add the user of the XP home machine into your user accounts on the XP pro machine. Then, once you do have the shared file/drive try right clicking on it and go to properties then go to the security tab. You can add the user for the XP Home machine to have full access. You can also set everyone to have full access but I wouldn't do this if you are connected to the internet.

Edit...Are both machines part of the same workgroup? I would assume so seeing as they both see each other.
