patches etc?

i know this sounds stupid but what r patches? and mods?for games and what do they do?

 

Patches are for fixing bugs in the game, or fixing a hack/cheat in a game so it cant be done anymore.

Bug- A defect in the code or routine of a program.

Patch- A piece of code added to software in order to fix a bug, especially as a temporary correction between two releases.

To correct a bug in (an item of software), especially as a temporary correction between releases.

Mod is just a modification of the original software to play differently.

You can also download addons from manuacturer's website, particularly Electronic Arts, which give you say more levels, more cars etc...
