I was thinking in the matter of opening a PayPal Account. But before I do I want to know the pros and the cons of getting one. Now I know most of you must have one and I hope one of you could answer my question. I also have another question in mind, do you have to pay for this account? And if so how much for every transaction?

    Thankyou in advance

i have never had problems with using paypal before, never. its free to setup, and there are usually no fees for transactions, unless some stingy person on ebay says please add 5% of total cost if paying by paypal, just a way for them to con more money out of you i feel. but yeah, no problems from me

    Cons:

Not falling for phishing schemes. These are emails that come in that tell you to log in and verify something. The links are usually NOT ebay.com if you mouseover. Always login to PayPal yourself.

Their so called buyer protection is a joke. One time I needed it, they didnt back me up.

Their support is about as good as Ebays. Non existant. So, buy carefully.

That all said, I have been using it for about 5 years and it is a good way to send money via the internet, especially, and mainly, for Ebay auctions. Doubt I would use it for anything else, its the payment standard there.

That's the big one. Of course, those emails get randomly sent to ALL my email addresses, not just the one I have registered with eBay/PayPal, so I've always ignored them, but more people fall for them than I care to think about.

The biggest problem I have with the PayPal account (which may or may not be true, I've not used it in almost two years) is that you can't be considered a reliable customer unless you link the account to your checking account. Which is something I NEVER considered as an option. I use my debit card (which they process as a credit card) for each transaction. I don't feel they need my checking account information above and beyond that.
