    Product code: AY747AA-ABA

    Running Windows 7 home

Just happened yesterday after normal operations. Turn PC on, can here a beep or 2 and fans run. Momentary "no sync" on monitor. No keyboard lights on. Changed monitors and existing works elsewhere; secondary monitor no-go on "bad" PC; all cables secure. Tried a few more times and now the "no sync" doesn't show up. Also, in the past 2 weeks or so, I had encountered random blue screens where I was able to restart.

    Any help appreciated.

    HI

Is this still happening on this HP?
If so try tapping F8 at boot and see if you can get into Safe Mode, as you may be able to recover your PC with a restore point.

Think with the random BSODs you have been having signalled an issue about to happen, can you remember what the BSOD messages where, I know long shot but they do tell us where the issue may lie.

Is the graphic card on-board (as in built into the motherboard or a stand alone card, if stand alone then if confident in doing so (if not find a friend that is) remove the graphic card and then re-seat and see if that helps, if possible try a spare card, again see if a friend has one if you do not.

If the fans are turning on but absolutely nothing is appearing on the monitor, I would unplug the PC, remove the CMOS (button) battery on the motherboard, wait about 15 minutes before reinstalling it then try to restart the PC.

If this doesn't work, listen to the number and length of the beeps. This is the board giving you what amounts to diagnostics in a Morse Code style. You can Google the "HP Pavillion beeps" and it may give you a list of what the codes mean.

If all this fails, I'm leaning toward a problem with the motherboard. I've seen a lot of more recent (3-5 year old) AMD-based units from HP and Acer where the board goes bad. In this case, you have a few options: Send the board off for repair (iffy, as the repairs typically last about 90 days), order a new (not refurbished) board from HP (pricey) or salvage what you can and rebuild or replace the PC.

Well, I tried to take out/replace the battery. Nothing changed. can't do the F8 as my keyboard is not recognized. Still get the 2 beeps on startup. Happened to open/close the CD tray and heard the 2 beeps when closing. Unplugged the cables to the CD player, and no beeps on startup, but still no display/keyboard.... oh well... :-(
