My PC crashed. It is a Pentium D dual core that was running Windows XP. Old but totally functional, let me store photos, edit videos, basic stuff.
The HD crashed so I reinstalled Windows XP from a system disk onto a new blank 1TB hard drive. Now that I can start up my system and run and get online, that is good. But the system feels cripples despite being a new installed. I run internet explorer since that is the only browser right now. It gets a "page cannot load" error when doing to basic sites like Google chrome download page. I downloaded the Chrome installer hoping that would work, but when I double click or choose the installer from Run it doesn't run. why would a new install not work like it did last time? I wanted to go to Microsoft update to at least move to SP3 but that page also gives me a "page cannot load" error.

The system feels crippled because it is. It doesn't have SP3 and lots of patches that fixed issues.

You need a friend with a working computer running Vista or newer, not XP, because it is not safe, to download this

and burn it to a CD for you.
