    XP Home
Have not yet installed SP2 (skeered - heard so many bad things)
    Power outage yesterday
PC would not boot back up
was missing (or corrupted) boot up file
    tried to restore with CD
    to no avail
    finally just reinstalled
I keep MOST data on another drive and all software (burned CDs to it) on yet another so was able to reinstall most software (except settings and lost some out of "my documents" that I never transferred to the data drive - I'll learn to do backups)

    Here are my problems.....

    1) several of the programs that I'm trying to reinstall, are being kicked out because, the message says .....

c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Then I have to close and not install programs.

    2) The PC is running VERY slow. Several seconds delay on everything I do. Especially Outlook. I did get a LOT of spyware before I was able to reinstall my www.QURB.com program, but ran Ad-Aware and Spybot and got rid of them. Never could install my AVG program (same message as above) so got virus' aplenty. Finally able to log on to www.Trendmicro.com and scan for viruses. Got rid of all but 2 (( troj dyfuca.cr & worm wootbot.co )):
    a) Unable to clean the file C:\documents and settings\localservice.NT authority\local settings\temprorary internet files\I5GL8VGH[1].exe because it is currently in use
    b) Unable to clean the file C:\windows\system32\systemwin32s.exe because it is currently in use.

Want to start in Safe Mode and run AVG but can't do that until I can get it installed.

    3) and this is very weird and has to be a spy/mal/ad ware issue (or virus).....
on my XP desktop, the icon names usually (on every other PC including my own before the crash) have a clear background, so the photo is directly behind the words. But now, like XP's predecessor (win98) the have a colored background. How do I make them clear again?

Fit to be tied over this crash

Got rid of all of my viruses and ad/mal/spy ware but I still can't install some of my critical programs because I keep getting the message:

c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

What do I need to do to correct this problem so I can install my AVG, Quickbooks, Quicken, etc?

    Linda
